Toni Houston is an award-winning, published fiction writer, whose work has appeared in various publications worldwide. Most notably she was winner over two consecutive years of the prestigious Canberra Times Short Story Competition, winner of the 1998 Australian Nature Writing Competition, and runner up in the 1999 Animalia Literary Awards. Most recently, Toni’s prose was placed in the official longlist of the internationally high profile Fish Short Story Competition, Ireland, whilst her first novel - Ship Shaped – was shortlisted for the Varuna/Harper Collins Manuscript Development scheme and is a finalist in the 2014 Hardcopy manuscript development scheme.

Toni has been recognized for, and trained in, writing services for over 30 years, with placement as both playwright and screenwriter in renowned institutions such as the Victorian College of the Arts, Australia, and the National Film & Television School, England.


Professionally, Toni has used her craft as scriptwriter for film and television with numerous broadcast credits. She has a diploma in journalism from the Australian College of Journalism, and is an award-winning journalist who has been regularly engaged as a casual and permanent part-time journalist by Fairfax Media, most notably the Eden Magnet Newspaper.
